Kami Watson is both a working and teaching artist currently residing in Huntsville, Alabama with a studio at Lowe Mill ARTS.
She is a second generation fiber and textile artist who has been specializing in wet felting since 2014. She uses this labor intensive technique to create both sculptural and flat textile work, combining process-knowledge learned from her mother with her own creative exploration.
In 2018, Kami was awarded an Individual Artist/Craft Fellowship from the Alabama State Council on the Arts giving her the opportunity to expand her knowledge via educational workshops with several internationally renowned felt artists.
While her felted accessories and home decor are available in several galleries, currently she is primarily focusing on storytelling through exhibition works; experimenting and exploring the ideas of combing her handmade felt with hand stitching, vintage textiles, and mixed media, as well as creating with other textile techniques.
In addition, Kami continues to teach and share her knowledge in her craft. With a passion for community outreach, she applied for and received a 2024 Verdant Fund grant. This funding, with in-kind support by the Huntsville - Madison County Public Library, is sponsoring a series of free and accessible felting workshops at the North Huntsville Public Library. She can also be found teaching at the Huntsville Museum of Art.
