Kami Watson is a 2nd generation fiber and textile artist currently residing in Huntsville, AL. She is a working and teaching artist, recipient of the Alabama State Council on the Arts “Individual Craft Fellowship” (2018), and a Verdant Fund grantee (2024).
In recent years, Kami has shifted her creative energy from consumer-focused wearables, accessories, and home decor, to exhibition and installation works that encourage conversation engagement while drawing inspiration from her personal life experiences and current events. As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and former AmeriCorps VISTA with a background in education and community outreach, Kami continues to incorporate her passion for teaching and outreach as part of her current artistic practice. She has taught at the John C Campbell Folk School, Huntsville Museum of Art, Kennedy Douglas Center for the Arts, Lowe Mill ARTS, and the North Huntsville Public Library. Her first solo show Women’s Work - Interrupted was in 2024, and her work has been in numerous selected group exhibitions, including the International Fiber Arts VIII Exhibition and B20: Wiregrass Biennial. Her most recent project has been to take the lead in curating a Spring 2025 group show, Merkin Trust and Fellwoship, comprised of work by her and six other Alabama women artists. She has also participated in juried arts and fine craft festivals and shows throughout AL, TN, NC, MD, and CT; has been juried into numerous regional and national craft guilds, and is a member of multiple arts organizations. |
